Relate is a registered charity and supports people who are experiencing difficulties in their relationships. The main focus of our work is to help those who have such difficulties to achieve more confident and realistic ways of coping with them and increase their emotional well-being.
Our Wellbeing Therapies Service provides couples counselling for depression.
What happens when I come for counselling?
At your first session (the Initial Consultation) a counsellor will talk with you for up to one hour. If at the end of this appointment it is agreed that Relate counselling may be helpful we will schedule on-going therapy sessions.
In counselling, individuals or couples have sessions where they think through an issue or work through a problem. The counsellor is trained to help people understand themselves better, relate better to others, work things out for themselves and make decisions about what to do next. Your counsellor will help you communicate openly and honestly.
Counselling sessions usually last one hour on a weekly basis. You will see the same counsellor each week and your counselling will continue for as long as both you and the counsellor feel it is helpful (up to 20 sessions).
Our Wellbeing Therapies Service takes place at our counselling rooms in central Bristol at 133 Cheltenham Road, BS6 5RR.
We are open from 9.30am to 9.00pm Monday to Friday, and on Saturday mornings from 9.30am to 1.00pm.
Because evening and Saturday morning appointments are in greatest demand, if you can be flexible in your availability it helps reduce any waiting time for an appointment.
Is what we say confidential?
Counselling is a private and confidential form of help. Relate holds information about its clients and their counselling in confidence. We will not give your name or any information about you to anyone outside the organisation unless there is a very exceptional circumstance, for example if someone, especially a child, is at risk of serious harm. In such a situation Relate would try to involve you in making a decision about any action to be taken.
